Who Is Samantha?

Samantha Johnson is more than an athlete—she is a mother, entrepreneur, mentor, and friend. Celebrated for her professional soccer career with the Chicago Red Stars, Melbourne Victory, and U.S. Youth National Teams, her influence extends far beyond the pitch. Driven by her philosophy, “Each day we have a chance and a choice to be better,” Samantha has embraced her next chapter with purpose and vision. She holds a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, a Certificate of Educational Leadership, and is on track to earn her EdD (Doctor of Education) in 2026. She is the founder of the BETTER® Curriculum, a youth initiative dedicated to equal access in education, building self-awareness, and empowering students to set and achieve their goals. She is also the founding partner of Cove Circle, a private community for artists, athletes, and entrepreneurs who want to get the most out of life. As a TYIK Trailblazer, Samantha exemplifies resilience, leadership, and transformation—proof that while the game may end, the legacy of an athlete continues to inspire new generations.

2009–2012

College Roots

Samantha began her journey at the University of Southern California, where she quickly made her mark as a standout forward. In 82 games, she scored 15 goals, earned Pac-10 All-Freshman honors, and set a school record with the fastest goal in USC history. Her time at USC built the foundation of resilience, drive, and leadership that would carry her into the professional ranks.

2014–2021

Professional Career

After college, Samantha fought her way into the NWSL through an open tryout, signing with the Chicago Red Stars in 2014. She went on to make 68 appearances and become a key defensive leader. Her career expanded internationally with stints at Sydney FC, Melbourne Victory, and Melbourne City in Australia, where she helped secure a Premiership title in 2018–19. She also played with the Utah Royals and later in France with ASJ Soyaux. On the international stage, she represented the U.S. Youth National Teams, winning the 2008 CONCACAF U-17 Championship and earning a silver medal at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

2022–Present

Entrepreneur & Trailblazer

After stepping away from the game, Samantha embraced her second chapter with a mission to inspire and empower. She created the BETTER Program, designed to provide equitable education experiences and teach youth goal-setting, decision-making, and self-awareness. She also became a founding partner of Cove Circle, a private community for artists, athletes, and entrepreneurs who want the most out of life. Today, as a TYIK Trailblazer, Samantha is more than an athlete—she is a mother, entrepreneur, mentor, and visionary, proving that while the game may end, the impact only grows.

The BETTER® Program

Samantha Johnson founded the BETTER® Curriculum with a simple yet powerful philosophy: “Each day we have a chance and a choice to be better.” The program is designed to provide equal access to education and an equitable learning experience for youth. Its curriculum explores self-awareness, decision-making, and goal-setting—empowering students to commit to their goals, education, and personal growth. By prioritizing each student’s individual journey, BETTER equips young people with the mindset, tools, and confidence to become positive contributors to society and leaders of a brighter future.

Cove Circle™ (Coming 2026)

Together with her co-founder and fellow TYIK Trailblazer Angelina Perino—a former professional dancer and entrepreneur—Samantha launched Cove Circle, a private community for artists, athletes, and entrepreneurs who want the most out of life. Cove Circle is a vetted network built for personal growth, professional development, and authentic connection. Through its member app, the platform offers curated events, original media, and access to an ambitious community of like-minded leaders. Members gain opportunities to grow through masterclasses, industry roundtables, IRL summits, forums, and direct connections with others pursuing their highest potential. With Cove Circle, Samantha is extending her mission beyond the field—creating spaces where high performers can thrive together, push boundaries, and shape what’s next.
